Tom Selleck Was Only Offered One More Year on ‘Blue Bloods’ and We’re Very Nervous

CL: Meet the Cast of ‘Blue Bloods’ Season 9by Country Living US

  • Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck recently discussed his renewed contract with the show.
  • He said he only signed up for one more season with CBS.
  • But the actor noted as long as his co-stars wanted to come back, so did he.

Blue Bloods wouldn’t be the same without any one of the Reagans (as proven by Linda’s untimely departure) but there’s one character who the show definitely couldn’t go on without. Of course, that’s the patriarch, leader of the family, and head of the NYPD, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). So it may come as a shock to find out that CBS kept him hanging for awhile before agreeing to a season 10.

“We were in limbo for a long time,” the former Magnum P.I. star revealed to Deadline about the series’s eventual renewal.CBS has a different timetable than I do on when the show should be picked up.”

The 74-year-old also noted that he “wasn’t happy” with the network when it came to his new contract. “Well, let me say publicly, they didn’t offer me a two-year deal, and I don’t know why,” the actor said. “I signed up for a year because that’s what they were offering. I love the show.” Tom jokingly continued, “Don’t tell CBS that because I got to be a good negotiator.”

As far as his role in the process, Tom revealed the only standard he had when it came to negotiations is that the rest of the Reagans, like Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny and Bridget Moynahan’s Erin, return, too. “Let me say that it’s not like you can get a new detective and bring him to the family dinner table. These people are related. So, as long as my fellow actors wanted to come back, and that was my only real criteria, I was coming back,” he said.

Although it’s unclear just how long Blue Bloods will run, in Tom’s opinion, the number of episodes could be infinite. “Look, as long as the characters are allowed to grow and change, I think it’s limitless.”
